Can Coronavirus Spread through Tears? What We Know Now.

Can the coronavirus (COVID 19) spread through the tears? Joseph J. Allen, OD FAAO reviewed a published case from the beginning of the coronavirus outbreak where the covid-19 virus was sampled from the patient’s tears.

What were the major takeaways?
Though not overly common, one of the symptoms of coronavirus is developing conjunctivitis. Furthermore, a recent case report suggests that the covid-19 virus can shed in the tears of the eye for nearly a month (27 days). In addition, the study found the virus sampled from tears to be infectious.
