Swollen Eyelid (Causes & Treatments) Eye Doctor Explains

A red swollen eyelid may be caused by something minor, such as an eye allergy but could also be a serious eye infection. Here I break down when it’s wise to see a doctor and some home remedies to help.

When it comes down swollen eyelid treatment, you have a few options.

If it is an infection (red swollen eyelid, red eye, painful, restricted eye movement, proptosis, blurred vision, fever, etc), it is best to see a medical professional for a diagnosis and possibly antibiotics.

If it is an allergy (cold compresses, antihistamine eye drops and oral medications can help)

If it is due to blepharitis or an eyelid stye, still best to see a local eye doctor but warm compresses often do help.
